The Baroque style building called the Casa Romano, built starting around 1760 and completed in 1770, was built by a Lombard architect for a tailor from Vienna, who moved to Trieste in the mid-eighteenth century. In 1785, it became the property of a stockbroker, Pietro Antonio Romano, from whom the building took its name. Between 1833 and 1872 the building was the residence of the magnate Cesare Cassis Faraoneand between 1835 and 1842 it housed the offices of Lloyd Austriaco. After the First World War, the building became the property of Credito Italiano, which had it restored between 1919 and 1921 by the engineer Giorgio Polli, whose restoration was based on the criteria established by the architect Civilli. It seems that the features of the tailor's face, who originally had Casa Romano built to house his Atelier, may be identified within the sculpted man’s head
found at the main door on the Piazza della Borsa. The building remained the headquarters of a bank for a long time, then a recent splitting of the property separated the utilization of the ground floor for commercial use from that of the upper floors, which were left unused. Thanks to this new project, Casa Romano has returned to life in its original dimension, with the same care and attention as back then. Apartments of different sizes have been created with fine finishes, high technology and home automation systems. The intent, however, is to offer a level of workmanship, home systems and finishes in line with the prestige of the building and the context in which it is located, without any compromise whatsoever.
